Optim.AI™ is a personalized cancer test that takes live cells from your tumor and tests them against different drugs in a laboratory to see which ones effectively kill your specific cancer.
No. DNA/Genomic testing looks at your cancer’s DNA/Genes to find mutations that could be targeted in your treatment with specific treatments.
Optim.AI™ is a sensitivity test, it performs a real-world test drive by applying a range of drugs to your live cells in the lab to see the actual capability of the drugs to kill your cancer cells.
It can confirm if a drug that targets a specific gene is actually sensitive and could identify effective options even when no actionable gene mutations are found.
Optim.AI™ can be used for patients with solid tumors and/or hematological cancers.
The test is widely applicable and has already been performed within 25+ cancer types.
It is best to discuss with your doctor if the Optim.AI™ test is suitable for your situation.
The Optim.AI™ uses a 12-drug panel per test and these 12 drugs can be customised per patient case. Your doctor has the final say in which 12 drugs will be tested on your tissue.
Currently the Optim.AI™ test that is commercially available can test with chemo and targeted drugs.
We over 95 FDA approved drugs in inventory to choose from and your doctor can decide which drugs are relevant to test for you.
The report will contain a detailed sensitivity profile of the patient as measured through our the cell killing metric.
Treatments are ranked from “Most Sensitive” (most effective) to “Resistant” (least effective).
The first two pages of the report contains the tables with the most sensitive treatment options that come out of the test ranked by sensitivity and grouped by the level of scientific proof.
Furthermore, the next pages will contain the sensitivity of all 12 single drugs as well as the Top 20 most sensitive drugs regimens for 2-drug, 3-drug and 4-drug combinations.
Your doctor will receive an email with the report in PDF format.
Our laboratory is located in Singapore. KYAN Technologies is licensed by the Ministry of Health of Singapore as a clinical laboratory.
Our laboratory is also accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
The technology is backed by years of clinical research at top institutions. It uses FDA-approved drugs to provide your doctor with evidence-based data to help guide your treatment.

Unlike other functional (drug sensitivity) tests that evaluate single drugs — or at most a couple of standard of care combinations — Optim.AI™ is specifically designed to systematically identify and rank hundreds of drug combinations, better reflecting how cancer is treated in the real world.
Most functional assays are constrained by the small number of cancer cells available from a patient’s biopsy, limiting them to a narrow panel of therapies. Optim.AI™ overcomes this challenge through a proprietary Small Data AI platform that enables efficient evaluation of numerous combinations using limited patient cells, then ranks them based on how strongly they reduce tumor viability. This allows physicians to consider a broader range of potentially effective treatment strategies that traditional drug sensitivity tests may not be able to assess.
Small Data AI means we don’t need massive amounts of data to make meaningful predictions. Instead of testing every possible drug combination — which would require hundreds of thousands of experiments and far more tumor cells than are available — we test a carefully selected set of drug combinations on your cancer cells. From those results, our system looks for patterns in how your cells respond and uses advanced mathematics to predict how many other combinations are likely to behave.
You can think of it like walking into a dark room and shining a few carefully placed lights. Each light reveals part of the room — a wall, a chair, a corner. When you put those pieces together, you can understand the layout of the whole room without lighting every inch. Small Data AI works the same way: from a limited but strategically chosen set of tests, it reconstructs a full map of how the drugs interact and then ranks the combinations most likely to work best for you.
If a standard treatment fails, it’s often because the cancer is or has become resistant to that treatment.
Optim.AI™ may identify those resistances in the lab before you take the next drug treatment, helping you find a treatment that may work for you.
By identifying which drugs your cancer may be resistant to, you and your doctor can avoid “trial and error” with treatments that may not work but would still cause harsh side effects.
So in that way, this test could help reducing unnecessary side effects.
The results of the test itself do not indicate in a patient will or will not have side effects to a particular treatment.
The best time is usually when you and your doctor are deciding on a new line of treatment, especially if you have already tried standard therapies or if your cancer has returned.
While it possible, it is best to wait until you have been off treatment for 2–3 weeks. Testing cells while they are still under the influence of current chemo can make the results less accurate.
While often used for advanced or metastatic cancer, it can be used for any stage where a doctor is choosing between multiple treatment options.
Generally we find that the earlier test is done, the more likely it may be to find sensitive options.
You can expect a report send to your doctor in about 7 to 10 working days after the lab receives your sample.
This fast turn around time ensures your doctor can use the information to make the decision on your next treatment.
The Optim.AI™ test can be performance with a variety of sample types:
Biopsy / Resection
Peripheral blood / Bone marrow aspirate (only for hematological malignancies.)
Malignant Fluids
The type of sample that can be used for the Optim.AI™ test depends on the cancer indication and the situation. The important part is that the sample needs to fresh.
Its best to discuss with your doctor what type of sample might be relevant for your situation.
Yes, generally for solid cancers and some hematological cancers the test requires a fresh sample and thus a new biopsy is needed.
In cases where there is malignant fluid (a fluid that builds up in the abdomen or chest area) available, this could possibly be used for the test as well.
Lastly, for certain blood cancers only peripheral blood is needed or bone marrow aspirate needs to be take.
Which is most relevant for you is best discussed with your doctor.
Generally you don’t need to go to a special clinic if your current doctor or surgeon can collect the sample during a procedure that can take place at your hospital.
As long as we can ship the sample from that hospital within 24 to 96 hours to our Singapore lab there is no need to go to a different clinic.
We keep your cells alive and run over 150 small experiments with it where we combine your cancer cells with drugs in different combinations and measure the cell killing in each experiment.
The results from these experiments are then used in our Optim.AI™ model to generate the drug sensitivity report that your doctor will receive.
Your oncologist must be the one to officially order the test thus it is best to speak to your doctor about ordering the test.
Your doctor can request the test with our local representative directly or reach out to us on contact@kyantechnologies.com to start the ordering process.
It is best to ask your doctor about the exact price of the test in your region and for your situation.
If the test is requested via a medical institution like a hospital or a clinic which has billing in place with the patient, then KYAN will issue the invoice to this institution upon confirmation of the viability of the sample within the KYAN lab.
If the billing from KYAN will be direct to patient, then a downpayment of the full amount is required via bank transfer or credit card payment.
In the case the sample is not viable for testing, the full amount will be refunded to the patient.
The KYAN team is ready to support with the logistics of shipping the sample to our laboratory.
All shipping and logistics are part of the service we offer that comes with the Optim.AI™ test.
Yes, if a tissue sample is send to our laboratory for testing but upon checking the viability of the sample we cannot proceed with the test, KYAN will not charge for the test nor for the shipping.
If a downpayment has been made directly to KYAN, this will be refunded.
Coverage varies. While not yet universally covered by government schemes, many private insurance plans may cover the test on a case-by-case basis when recommended by your doctor for medical necessity.
