Optim.AI™ is indicated for patients with solid tumors or hematological malignancies where multiple treatment paths exist without a clear superior choice; who have exhausted standard-of-care options; or where trial and error to find an effective treatment is not possible.
The Optim.AI™ test is widely applicable and has already been performed within 25+ cancer types.

Genomic profiling (NGS) identifies mutations (potential targets), but cannot always predict sensitivity or resistance. Optim.AI™ measures the functional response (cell death) of live tumor cells to drugs. It can confirm if a genomic target is actually sensitive and could identify effective options even when no actionable mutations are found.
Yes. Unlike many assays that test single agents, Optim.AI™ utilizes a proprietary platform to predict sensitivity to single, 2-drug, 3-drug, and 4-drug combinations. It ranks these regimens by predicted efficacy (cell killing capability) to help you identify synergistic treatments.
It is strongly preferred to biopsy during a “washout” period (typically 2-3 weeks post-treatment) or at the point of clear progression. Biopsying a tumor currently under heavy cytotoxic suppression may yield cells with poor viability, leading to test failure.
No. Optim.AI™ measures tumor sensitivity to drugs. It does not model systemic toxicity (e.g., liver or kidney impact). Clinical judgment is required to balance the predicted efficacy against the patient’s performance status. Our lab team does supplement the report with citations of clinical studies that have evaluated the top ranked treatments found in the report.
The test combines live-cell biological experimentation with “Small Data” analytics. We expose patient-derived tumor cells to a 12-drug panel in our proprietary designed experiments, measure the cell’s response (cell death), and use our model to analyse and extrapolate these results to predict the most effective combinatorial regimens.
Small Data AI means we don’t need massive amounts of data to make meaningful predictions. Instead of testing every possible drug combination — which would require hundreds of thousands of experiments and far more tumor cells than are available — we test a carefully selected set of drug combinations on your cancer cells. From those results, our system looks for patterns in how your cells respond and uses advanced mathematics to predict how many other combinations are likely to behave.
You can think of it like walking into a dark room and shining a few carefully placed lights. Each light reveals part of the room — a wall, a chair, a corner. When you put those pieces together, you can understand the layout of the whole room without lighting every inch. Small Data AI works the same way: from a limited but strategically chosen set of tests, it reconstructs a full map of how the drugs interact and then ranks the combinations most likely to work best for you.
Clinical studies and concordance data have demonstrated high accuracy (>80%), with the test successfully predicting resistance to prior lines of therapy and identifying sensitive combinations that correlate with positive clinical response in several of our studies. Our publications demonstrate the accuracy of the Optim.AI™ test especially in our studies in NHL, AML and Soft Tissue Sarcoma.
Yes. Optim.AI™ tests using FDA-approved drugs, ensuring that the recommendations provided in the report are clinically accessible and can be prescribed.

The requesting clinician determines which 12 drugs to test for each individual patient case.
The clinician has 3 options:
The final decision on the drug panel will always be with the requesting clinician.

Sensitivity is defined by the Normalized Cell Viability Score (NCV), which indicates how many cells are still alive after ex vivo drug treatment. The score is a measure from 0 to 1+, where 0 indicates complete cell death (sensitive) and 1+ indicates that all cells are still alive (resistant). All treatments evaluated in the report are ranked based on this NCV score.
The requesting clinician will receive an email with the report in PDF format. The first two pages of the report contains the following tables ranked by NCV:
In the appendix also contains:
All ranked based on the Normalized Cell Viability (NCV) score.
The Optim.AI™ test is performed using a 12-drug panel that can consist of chemotherapies and targeted therapies. At this point in time, it is not possible yet to evaluate immunotherapies in the commercially available Optim.AI™ platform.
The Optim.AI™ 2.0 platform is currently in development which will be able to also evaluate immunotherapies and ADC’s, but this is not yet commercially available.
Please review our online drug inventory to know what drugs are directly available for testing.
Functional Precision Medicine (FPM) is an approach that identifies the most effective cancer treatments by testing drugs directly on a patient’s own live tumor cells outside the body (ex vivo).
Unlike traditional precision medicine, which looks at the tumor’s “blueprint” (Genomics/NGS) to find mutations, functional precision medicine looks at the tumor’s “behavior” (Phenotype).
By observing how live cancer cells actually respond to various therapies in a lab setting, Optim.AI™ can predict which drugs may successfully kill the cancer cells and which will fail due to resistance, regardless of whether a genetic mutation is present.
Unlike other functional (drug sensitivity) tests that evaluate single drugs — or at most a couple of standard of care combinations — Optim.AI™ is specifically designed to systematically identify and rank hundreds of drug combinations, better reflecting how cancer is treated in the real world.
Most functional assays are constrained by the small number of cancer cells available from a patient’s biopsy, limiting them to a narrow panel of therapies. Optim.AI™ overcomes this challenge through a proprietary Small Data AI platform that enables efficient evaluation of numerous combinations using limited patient cells, then ranks them based on how strongly they reduce tumor viability. This allows physicians to consider a broader range of potentially effective treatment strategies that traditional drug sensitivity tests may not be able to assess.
The Optim.AI™ test can be performance with a variety of sample types:
Biopsy / Resection
Peripheral blood / Bone marrow aspirate (only for hematological malignancies.)
Malignant Fluids
The type of sample that can be used for the Optim.AI™ test depends on the cancer indication and patient situation. The important part is that the sample needs to fresh. For detailed information please review our specimen requirements.
No. The test requires live cells to measure the actual cell response. Frozen or formalin-fixed tissues are dead and cannot be used for this assay.
Yes. We provide a validated collection kit containing a preservation media.
Do not place the sample in formalin, saline, or simple RPMI.
Your can find more information about the required containers on our specimen requirements section.
The report is typically generated within 7–10 days from sample receipt and viability confirmation at our lab.
Our success rate for generating a reports is >95% for samples that meet our intake quality criteria (viability and cell count).
Our laboratory is located in Singapore. KYAN Technologies is licensed by the Ministry of Health of Singapore as a clinical laboratory.
Our laboratory is also accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
Of course, you can reach out to use over email at contact@kyantechnologies.com, reach out to us on Whatsapp via +65 69740426 or submit a contact form on our website and our medical team will be ready to support you.
The KYAN team is ready to support with the logistics of shipping the sample to our laboratory. This will require some planning thus we suggest to get in touch well before the planned sample extraction procedure.
If the test is requested via a medical institution like a hospital or a clinic which has billing in place with the patient, then KYAN will issue the invoice the this institution upon confirmation of the viability of the sample within the KYAN lab.
If the billing from KYAN will be direct to patient, then a downpayment of the full amount is required via banktransfer or credit card payment. In the case the sample is not viable for testing, the full amount will be refunded to the patient.
Coverage varies. While not yet universally covered by government schemes, many private insurance plans may cover the test on a case-by-case basis when recommended by a specialist for medical necessity.
